SINGAPORE: Woodlands Wellington’s Park Tae Won led the charge as the Rams came from behind to beat home side Dalian Shide 3-1 at the Queenstown Stadium on Thursday night in their NTUC Income Yeo’s S-League 2008 clash.

Dalian took the lead in controversial fashion when a referee’s assistant flagged Li Zhichao for offside in the 25th minute, but referee S. Kumar allowed play to continue as Ni Yusong came from deep behind Li to stroke the ball past Rams keeper Yazid Yasin, with his defence static.

The Rams showed resolve to equalise just before half-time through Park.

Striker Laakkad Abdelhadi then handed Woodlands the lead five minutes after the restart, and the visitors looked quite comfortable from then on.

Park then got his second on the night in the 74th minute as the home side pressed forward looking for an equaliser and were caught on the break.

Woodlands leapfrog the Young Lions and Geylang United into fifth spot.

Dalian, meanwhile, have only amassed one point from their last four games.

The Chinese side next host Home United, who put five goals past them in the RHB Singapore Cup last Wednesday. –

SINGAPORE : Dalian Shide were clearly intent on putting some points on the board at the third time of asking, but they faced a resolute Woodlands Wellington side who made sure the Chinese club remained firmly anchored to the foot of the NTUC Income-Yeo’s S.League 2008 table on Thursday night.

The home side broke the deadlock in the 58th minute after a neat lay-off by Laakkad Abdelhadi set up Park Tae Won to score.

Dalian’s disciplinary woes continued when Li Zhichao picked up a red card in the 78th minute, the club’s third in as many games.

The tension in the stadium was ratcheted up in the 86th minute when Lucian Dronca was sent off for kicking a Dalian player in the box, but keeper Yazid Yasin rescued the Rams when he saved the resultant penalty. –

SINGAPORE : With just a minute to go and the score at 2-2, Balestier Khalsa and Woodlands Wellington were striving for the winner in their NTUC Income-Yeo’s S.League 2007 clash when one set of floodlights suddenly failed at the Toa Payoh Stadium on Thursday night.

Amidst the collective groan of 2,489 fans, play was halted for 11 minutes as stadium officials worked frantically to bring get the lights back on. They eventually did, but there was no change to the score as both teams settled for the point.

The match was an entertaining encounter that saw both teams hold the lead at different points in the game.

The visitors took the lead first.

In the 36th minute, Park Tae Won, who had earlier seen an effort hit the woodwork, found time and space in the Balestier box to chest down a cross and lash an unstoppable shot past goalkeeper Lee Heng Huat.

The Tigers found the equaliser in the 62nd minute. With the ball bobbling around in a goalmouth scramble, skipper Ryuji Sueoka executed a bicycle-kick that went over Woodlands custodian Yazid Yasin and in off the post.

Ten minutes later, Fortune Udo grabbed his third goal in five games, rifling a shot through the legs of Fadhil Salim, who had come on for the injured Yazid.

The lead lasted just two minutes, as Jufri Taha gifted Woodlands an equaliser when he lobbed the ball into his own goal under pressure from Laakad Abdelhadi. –

SINGAPORE : Geylang United’s new Brazilian striker Leopoldino dos Santos scored on his S.League debut on Thursday night, helping his side to a 2-0 away win over Woodlands Wellington.

The win saw the second-from-bottom Eagles – who were suffering from a goal drought due to a striker shortage problem over the past two months – climb two places to ninth in the table.

But their celebrations were dampened when dos Santos, 28, was sent off in injury time for a second yellow card offence.

In the 26th minute, dos Santos bulldozed his way into the Woodlands penalty area and held off two defenders before he was brought down by goalkeeper Yazid Yasin to earn a penalty.

The Brazilian hitman picked himself up to coolly send Yazid the wrong way for his first S.League goal.

But the former Sao Paulo trainee, who signed from Indonesian club Persitara, was booked for lifting his shirt over his head during the celebrations.

Geylang striker Fadzuhazny Juraimi, making a return from injury, doubled his side’s lead on 70 minutes.

Thai midfielder Rangsan Vivatchaichok’s free-kick into the box found a lurking Fadzuhazny, who headed home.

Dos Santos’ night ended on a bum note on the stroke of full-time when referee P Pandian booked him for diving.

In another match at the Hougang Stadium, Liaoning Guangyuan continued their revival with a 1-0 away victory over Sengkang Punggol, courtesy of Peng Zhiyi’s seventh-minute goal. –
