SINGAPORE : Woodlands Wellington held the Super Reds to a 2-2 draw in Friday night’s NTUC Income-Yeo’s S.League 2008 match at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

In a thrilling match, the Rams went up 2-0 in the first-half through midfielder Sazali Salleh’s left-footer from just outside the box in the sixth minute and a diving header from striker Abdelhadi Laakkad at the half-hour mark.

The Koreans piled on plenty of pressure but the Woodlands defence, marshalled superbly by Lucian Dronca and Jerry Bartholomeusz, held firm. But they were broken down just six minutes after the break by midfielder Oh Ddog Yi’s flying effort.

SINGAPORE : Woodlands Wellington have already won a title for themselves, even before the S.League starts on March 4.

They beat Sengkang Punggol 4-0 to clinch the inaugural SingTel League Cup held at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Sunday.

The SingTel Cup was launched this year to give local teams the opportunity to win an additional piece of silverware.

Woodlands Wellington had beaten stronger teams like Home United and newcomers Korean Super Reds to reach the finals.

For their opponents Sengkang, it was already an achievement to reach this stage, as they finished last in the league in 2006.

Lucian Dronca scored Woodlands’ first goal through a penalty in the 19th minute.

This was followed by a second goal by Akihiro in the 38th minute.

Park Tae Won (56th) and Abdelhadi Laakkad (85th) sealed victory for Woodlands in the second-half of the match.

The winners took home $20,000 cash while the runners-up were $10,000 richer. – CNA/de
