KUCHING Jan 26 – The Sarawak Football Association (FA) will give incentives to members of the public who provide information leading to the arrest of spectators who cause disturbances or destroy property in the stadium.

Sarawak FA president Datuk Taha Ariffin said the incentive was one way of overcoming the problem of unruly crowd in the stadium during football matches.

The type of incentive to be given beginning the new season would be at the discretion of the Sarawak FA, he said at a media conference at his office today.

“They (informants) do not only help the Sarawak FA but also enhance the image of the sport in the country,” he said.

Taha said the Sarawak FA which was fined twice last year for unruly spectators, did not want such incidents to be repeated this year.

He also announced his willingness to remain as Sarawak FA president after listening to the appeals from various quarters for him not to resign his post.

He said that by resigning, the problem of unruly crowd would not be resolved as such problems were faced by all football associations worldwide.

Earlier, Taha planned to resign after the spectators ran wild following Sarawak’s 1-2 defeat to Negeri Sembilan in the Malaysia Cup semifinal in October last year.
